Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,723 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,723 ft of the 12,362 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 5,246 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Vision Jet taxiing from the parking area to the runway at PADQ Kodiak Airport, a process that took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 26, with a takeoff distance of 2,239 feet, which accounted for 35% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 106 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 60°F temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot at 269 degrees. The crosswind was negligible, with a headwind of 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead PADQ Kodiak Airport, where it climbed from an altitude of 466 feet above sea level to 35,917 feet above sea level, an increase of 35,452 feet in 28 minutes, covering a distance of 81 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 14 miles southwest of AK07 Dog Fish Bay Airport Nanwalek, and lasted for 7 minutes, covering a distance of 33 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 7 miles west of 09AN Kachemak Landing, and descended from 36,002 feet above sea level to 1,604 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,399 feet in 26 minutes, covering a distance of 105 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 07R at PANC Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport was made from the west, heading 88.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,472 feet above ground level. However, the aircraft went around at 240 feet above ground level. The landing was eventually made on runway 07R, with a runway length of 12,362 feet. The threshold height was excessively over target, and the threshold speed was too high at 86 knots.
The touchdown point was 3,010 feet beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 54 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was firm at -306 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 47 feet from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 59°F temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot at 269 degrees, with a negligible crosswind and a tailwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 4,587 feet, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 39 feet from the centreline. The total flight distance was 232 nautical miles, taking 83 minutes, and the aircraft used 598 pounds of fuel.
The Vision Jet aircraft has successfully landed at PANC Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, but with some notable areas for improvement. The final approach to runway 07R was initiated from the west, heading 88.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,472 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but with a touchdown point that was 3,010 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone.
The landing performance was evaluated, and it was found that the threshold height at 148 feet agl was excessively over target, indicating that the aircraft may have been too high during the approach. Additionally, the threshold speed was too high at 86 knots, which could have contributed to the aircraft's excessive altitude. The touchdown speed of 54 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -306 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a controlled descent.
However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 47 feet from the centreline, which could have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's alignment during the approach. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a wind speed of 1 knot from 269°. The crosswind and tailwind components were negligible, at 0 and 1 knots, respectively.
The total landing distance of 4,587 feet was 37% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 39 feet from the centreline, indicating that the aircraft may have required some correction during the rollout phase. Overall, while the Vision Jet aircraft has demonstrated good landing performance in terms of touchdown speed and rate, there are areas for improvement in terms of threshold height, threshold speed, and runway alignment.
