Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 152 m above the runway. The 305 m gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,576 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,576 m of the 2,480 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 456 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A320, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Bremen Airport, EDDW. This process took approximately 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 27, with a takeoff distance of 1,584 meters, which accounted for 78% of the runway. The liftoff speed was recorded at 162 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it began its enroute climb, starting overhead the town of Stuhr in Lower Saxony, Germany. The climb took 26 minutes to reach an altitude of 11,804 meters above sea level, an increase of 11,498.4 meters from the initial altitude of 306 meters above sea level. During this climb, the aircraft covered a distance of 172 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 3 miles north of Stege in Region Sjaelland, Denmark. This phase lasted for 24 minutes and covered a distance of 191 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 4 miles north of Mariannelund in Joenkoeping County, Sweden. The descent took 27 minutes to reach an altitude of 435 meters above sea level, a decrease of 11,410.7 meters from the initial altitude of 11,846 meters above sea level. During this descent, the aircraft covered a distance of 143 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 26 at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, ESSA, was made from the east, with a heading of 256.0 degrees at an altitude of 396.9 meters above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 26, which had a length of 2,480 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 135 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 458 meters, and the touchdown speed was recorded at 130 knots, which was also satisfactory. However, the touchdown rate was hard at -2.4 meters per second. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.5 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 11 degrees Celsius.
The total landing distance was 1,496 meters, which accounted for 60% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took approximately 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 514 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 89 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 3,098 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at ESSA Stockholm-Arlanda Airport, achieving a score of 94.8%. The final approach to runway 26 was conducted from the east, with a heading of 256.0° at an altitude of 396.9 meters above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 135 knots. The touchdown distance of 458 meters was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown speed of 130 knots was also good. However, the touchdown rate was slightly hard at -2.4 meters per second, which may indicate a slightly aggressive approach.
One notable issue with the landing was the runway touchdown position, which was misaligned by 8.5 meters from the centerline. This may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path or a miscalculation of the runway alignment. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain control and stability during the rollout phase.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were mild, with a temperature of 11°C. This suggests that the aircraft was able to operate within normal parameters, and the landing was not affected by adverse weather conditions. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor issues that need to be addressed to achieve a perfect score.
