MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,186 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 363 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from London Heathrow Airport, the Airbus A350-900 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. As it reached the runway threshold, the aircraft started its departure roll on runway 27R, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 156 knots. The takeoff distance of 1,397 meters was 39% of the runway length, and the aircraft lifted off with a local wind of 24 knots at 300 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 21 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its initial cruising altitude, it passed over several notable locations, including Harmondsworth in Greater London, where it began its enroute climb from 1,144 feet above sea level to 5,981 feet. The climb phase was followed by a brief level cruise over Farnham Royal in Buckinghamshire, before the aircraft started another climb phase over Maple Cross in Hertfordshire, reaching a cruising altitude of 41,216 feet. The aircraft then entered a prolonged level cruise phase, lasting 20 minutes and covering a distance of 670 nautical miles, before starting its descent phase over the North Sea. The descent was followed by a series of level cruise phases, including one over the Finnish countryside, before the aircraft began its final approach to runway 22L at Helsinki Vantaa Airport.
The final approach was made from the north-east, with the aircraft heading 228.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,346 feet above ground level. The landing was made on the 3,186-meter runway, with a touchdown distance of 365 meters and a touchdown speed of 130 knots. The touchdown rate was smooth at -134 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.5 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,309 meters, or 41% of the runway length, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,059 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 13,473 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft touched down on runway 22L at EFHK Helsinki Vantaa Airport with a threshold height that met the desired standards. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target, registering 133 kt. The touchdown distance of 365 m was satisfactory, but the touchdown speed of 130 kt was a tad faster than ideal. Despite this, the touchdown rate was smooth, with a descent rate of -134 fpm.
The runway touchdown position was slightly off-centre, deviating by 4.5 m from the centreline. This minor misalignment was the only notable deviation from an otherwise precise landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 9 °C and a gentle headwind of 8 kt, contributed to a relatively straightforward approach. The crosswind of 9 kt from the north east was well within manageable limits.
The aircraft's overall performance earned a score of 98.9%. The rollout phase was particularly impressive, with the aircraft maintaining a very good alignment with the centreline. The total landing distance of 1,309 m, which accounted for 41% of the runway length, was well within acceptable limits. Overall, the landing was a creditable achievement, with only minor deviations from the ideal performance.
