Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,620 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,620 m of the 2,883 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 445 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by Vueling, with the aircraft registration EC-MGZ. The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles (nm). The aircraft then departed from runway 30 at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (LEMG), with a takeoff distance of 1,507 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 11°C, with a wind speed of 7 knots at a direction of 280°. The crosswind component was 2 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots. The aircraft took off at a liftoff speed of 155 knots.
Following takeoff, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile northwest of LEMG airport. The climb phase involved an increase in altitude from 1,107 feet above sea level (asl) to 28,878 ft asl, a total increase of 27,772 feet, over a distance of 82 nm, and took 15 minutes to complete.
The enroute level cruise phase began 4 miles east of Aeródromo de Jaen - Las Infantas Mengibar (LEMW) and lasted for 83 minutes, covering a distance of 562 nm. The aircraft then started its enroute descent, which began overhead Saint-Pierre-de-Maille (Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France). The descent phase involved a decrease in altitude from 28,754 ft asl to 25,165 ft asl, a total decrease of 3,589 feet, over a distance of 25 nm, and took 3 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile southwest of Loches (Centre-Val de Loire, France) and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nm. The enroute descent phase began again, this time overhead Civray-de-Touraine (Centre-Val de Loire, France), with a decrease in altitude from 24,895 ft asl to 10,728 ft asl, a total decrease of 14,166 feet, over a distance of 55 nm, and took 9 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started overhead Neuvy-en-Dunois (Centre-Val de Loire, France) and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 28 nm. The enroute descent phase began again, this time overhead Saint-Cyr-sous-Dourdan (Ile-de-France, France), with a decrease in altitude from 10,673 ft asl to 2,928 ft asl, a total decrease of 7,745 feet, over a distance of 34 nm, and took 8 minutes to complete.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started overhead Jossigny (Ile-de-France, France) and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nm. The enroute descent phase began again, this time 1 mile southeast of La Queue-en-Brie (Ile-de-France, France), with a decrease in altitude from 2,888 ft asl to 1,578 ft asl, a total decrease of 1,310 feet, over a distance of 4 nm, and took 2 minutes to complete.
The final approach to runway 25 at Paris-Orly Airport (LFPO) was made from the east, with a heading of 254.0° at 4 nm and 1,284 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was made on runway 25, which had a length of 2,883 meters. The threshold height was good, with a threshold speed of
Aircraft Vueling EC-MGZ successfully landed at LFPO Paris-Orly Airport, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in its approach and landing procedures. The aircraft's final approach to runway 25 was executed from the east, with a heading of 254.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,284 feet above ground level (agl).
The landing was characterized by a good threshold height, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured for landing. The threshold speed of 133 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's speed during the approach. The touchdown distance of 444 meters was also good, indicating that the pilot had sufficient control over the aircraft's descent.
The touchdown speed of 130 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -298 feet per minute (fpm) was fair. However, the touchdown rate could be improved to achieve a more optimal landing. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot had successfully aligned the aircraft with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from 123°. The crosswind and tailwind components were minimal, at 1 knot each, which did not pose a significant challenge to the pilot. The total landing distance of 1,540 meters was 53% of the runway length, indicating that the pilot had sufficient control over the aircraft's descent and rollout.
The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot had successfully controlled the aircraft's rotation and alignment during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated a high level of proficiency in its approach and landing procedures.
