Improve the pattern base leg turn
Bank angle in the pattern is conventionally kept to 20 to 30 degrees, and the base-to-final turn is where that convention earns its keep. Stall speed rises with bank because the wing must produce more lift in a turn. Roughly 7 per cent higher at 30 degrees, about 19 per cent at 45, and around 40 per cent at 60. At 65 kt on base you don't have much margin to spend steepening a turn to salvage an overshoot.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 685 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 685 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 158 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a quick taxi from the parking area to the runway, taking less than a minute and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a PA28 Warrior II, then departed from runway 30 at EGHJ Bembridge Airport, with a takeoff distance of 421 meters, which was 62% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 71 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 2 knots at 269°.
After takeoff, the aircraft entered a right-hand pattern, with the entry distance being less than 1 nautical mile in 91 seconds. The crosswind leg of the pattern was 2 nautical miles in 60 seconds, and the downwind turn was 4 nautical miles, with an angle to the runway of 61.2°. The downwind leg itself was less than 1 nautical mile in 10 seconds. The base leg turn was 3 nautical miles, with an angle to the runway of 109.8°, and the base leg was less than 1 nautical mile in 33 seconds.
The final turn was 2 nautical miles in 108 seconds, and the aircraft then began its final approach to runway 30 from the south-east, heading 298.0° at 1 nautical mile and 344 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 155 meters, a touchdown speed of 44 knots, and a touchdown rate of -60 feet per minute, which was excellent. The runway touchdown alignment was also very good.
The total flight distance was 9 nautical miles, and the flight took 8 minutes to complete. The aircraft used a total of -63 kilograms of fuel during the flight. The local weather conditions remained the same throughout the flight, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 2 knots at 270°, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots.
The PA28 Warrior II aircraft successfully landed at EGHJ Bembridge Airport, achieving a perfect score of 100.0%. The final approach was conducted from the south east, aligning with the runway 30 threshold at a heading of 298.0°. At a distance of 1 nautical mile and an altitude of 344 feet above ground level (agl), the aircraft was in a stable position for landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated excellent control, with a good threshold height and a runway touchdown alignment that was very good. The threshold speed was slightly below the target at 54 knots, but this did not affect the overall performance of the landing. The touchdown distance of 155 meters was also good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The landing speed of 44 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -60 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, demonstrating a high degree of control and precision. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a gentle headwind of 2 knots at 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, which further contributed to the smooth and controlled nature of the landing.
Overall, the PA28 Warrior II aircraft performed exceptionally well during the landing at EGHJ Bembridge Airport, demonstrating a high level of skill and control from the pilot. The combination of good weather conditions, precise control, and a well-executed approach and landing procedure resulted in a perfect score of 100.0%.
