Improve the rollout
A crosswind landing is a geometry problem. The air mass you're flying in is moving sideways across the runway, and you need your ground track down the centreline with your wheels aligned to it at the moment of contact. There are two techniques that will help, the crab and the sideslip.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,397 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,397 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 230 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the A400M aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 23L at Düsseldorf Airport, with a takeoff distance of 935 meters, which accounted for 39% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 151 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 13°C temperature and a wind speed of 10 knots at 220°. The crosswind was 2 knots, while the headwind was 10 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Düsseldorf Airport and ascending from 1,150 feet above sea level to 14,974 feet above sea level, an increase of 13,824 feet in just 4 minutes, covering a distance of 20 nautical miles.
The enroute climb was followed by a series of descents and level cruises. The first descent started 1 mile south of Voerde, where the aircraft descended from 14,978 feet above sea level to 14,259 feet above sea level, a decrease of 719 feet in 2 minutes, covering 9 nautical miles. The next level cruise started overhead Schermbeck and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 7 nautical miles. Another descent started 5 miles south east of Heiden, where the aircraft descended from 14,079 feet above sea level to 3,007 feet above sea level, a decrease of 11,071 feet in 7 minutes, covering 30 nautical miles.
The enroute climb then resumed 4 miles south of Muenster, where the aircraft climbed from 3,189 feet above sea level to 5,000 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,811 feet in 3 minutes, covering 15 nautical miles. Another descent started 2 miles east of Werne, where the aircraft descended from 4,964 feet above sea level to 1,776 feet above sea level, a decrease of 3,188 feet in 3 minutes, covering 11 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 24 at Dortmund Airport was made from the north east, heading 241.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,361 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown speed of 116 knots and a touchdown distance of 230 meters. The touchdown rate was hard at -462 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 10°C temperature and a wind speed of 8 knots at 190°. The crosswind was 6 knots, while the headwind was 5 knots. The total landing distance was 891 meters, which accounted for 64% of the runway. However, the runway rollout alignment was excessively misaligned by 54.4 meters from the centreline.
The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 8 nautical miles. The total flight distance was 108 nautical miles, taking 34 minutes, and the aircraft used 1,865 kilograms of fuel.
The A400M aircraft successfully landed on runway 24 at EDLW Dortmund Airport, achieving a score of 86.1%. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 241.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,361 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 121 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 230 meters and a touchdown speed of 116 knots, both of which were within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown rate was slightly hard at -462 feet per minute (fpm), which may indicate a slight loss of control during the landing phase. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 10°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from 190°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots. These conditions were relatively calm and did not pose a significant challenge to the landing.
Despite the overall success of the landing, there were some areas for improvement. The runway rollout alignment was excessively misaligned by 54.4 meters from the centerline, which may indicate a slight deviation from the desired path during the rollout phase. This misalignment could have been caused by a variety of factors, including pilot error, aircraft performance issues, or other external factors.
Overall, the A400M aircraft demonstrated good performance during the landing, but there are opportunities for improvement, particularly in terms of maintaining a more accurate runway rollout alignment.
