Get the gear down before the gate
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: gear still up and speed 45 kt FAST on the reference speed of 127 kt.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,730 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,730 m of the 3,986 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 637 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Milan Malpensa International Airport, the Boeing 737-700 began its journey on runway 35R, taking 9 minutes to taxi to the runway and covering 3 nautical miles. As the aircraft lifted off, it accelerated to a liftoff speed of 144 knots, utilizing 59% of the 1,746-meter runway. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 26°C and a gentle wind of 2 knots from 205 degrees, resulting in a slight tailwind component.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it began its ascent 1 mile southwest of Casorate Sempione, Italy, and continued to climb to 34,052 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,368 feet in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 94 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off and entered a cruise phase, maintaining a steady altitude for 11 minutes as it flew over Ramsen, Switzerland, covering 77 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, initially from 34,103 feet to 30,000 feet in 5 minutes, covering 39 nautical miles, before entering a final descent phase from 29,771 feet to 5,001 feet in 11 minutes, covering 61 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached Frankfurt Airport, it began its final approach to runway 25L from the east, aligning itself with the runway at 4 nautical miles and 1,337 feet above ground level. The landing was executed with a touchdown speed of 128 knots, slightly above the target speed, and a touchdown rate of -290 feet per minute. The aircraft touched down 225 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a total landing distance of 1,654 meters, utilizing 42% of the 3,984-meter runway. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking 4 minutes to cover 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 306 nautical miles, with a flight time of 1 hour and a fuel consumption of 2,442 kilograms.
The Boeing 737-700 touched down on runway 25L at EDDF Frankfurt Airport, with a threshold height of 76 ft agl, significantly above the target of 50 ft. The aircraft's speed at touchdown was 128 kt, slightly above the target of 125 kt, resulting in a touchdown rate of -290 fpm, which was considered fair. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a heading of 250.0° at 4 nm and 1,337 ft agl, aligning with the runway.
The touchdown point was located 225 m beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight over-shoot. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the touchdown phase. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 26 °C and a wind of 2 kt at 200°, contributed to a relatively calm landing environment. The crosswind and headwind components were negligible, at 2 kt each.
The total landing distance of 1,654 m was 42% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. However, the rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.3 m from the centerline, resulting in a score of 86.2%. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with some minor deviations from the target parameters.
