Improve the takeoff
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,224 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,224 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 433 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Reichelsheim Airfield (EDFB), the Extra 330 aircraft initiated its departure roll on runway 18, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 72 kt in a distance of 287 meters, which accounted for 23% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff featured a temperature of 17 °C and a moderate wind blowing at 11 kt from a direction of 222 °, resulting in a crosswind and headwind component of 8 kt each.
As the aircraft entered the traffic pattern, it proceeded to the left, navigating the pattern in a timely manner. The left-hand pattern entry from runway 18 was completed in less than 1 nm in 40 seconds, followed by a left-hand pattern crosswind turn, which was accomplished in under 1 nm in 21 seconds. The subsequent pattern turns and legs were executed efficiently, with the aircraft maintaining a steady pace throughout. The final approach to runway 18 was initiated from the north, with the aircraft descending to an altitude of 106 ft above ground level (agl) at a heading of 179.0 °.
The landing on runway 18 was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 61 kt and a distance of 433 meters, which was well within the acceptable range. The touchdown rate was an impressive -78 fpm, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 9.6 meters. The total landing distance of 726 meters accounted for 59% of the available runway length, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 10.5 meters from the centreline. The aircraft's performance during the flight was notable, with a total distance of 6 nm covered in 4 minutes and a fuel consumption of 2 kg.
The final approach to runway 18 at EDFB Reichelsheim Airfield from the north was executed with a heading of 179.0° at 0 nm and 106 ft above ground level. The aircraft maintained a good approach quality throughout, with a threshold height that was well within acceptable limits. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target, coming in at 82 kt.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, it demonstrated good touchdown characteristics, with a speed of 61 kt and a touchdown distance of 433 m. The touchdown rate was particularly impressive, with an excellent -78 fpm. Although the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 9.6 m, the aircraft's overall performance was still strong. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 17 °C and a wind of 10 kt at 223°, contributed to a relatively straightforward landing.
The total landing distance of 726 m was 59% of the runway length, indicating a good balance between speed and control. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 10.5 m. Despite this, the aircraft's overall performance earned a score of 94.7%, a testament to the pilot's skill and control.
