Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,450 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 322 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Emirates flight, operated by the aircraft A6-EVA, began its journey from Dubai International Airport (OMDB) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. As the plane taxied from the parking area to the runway, it took approximately 6 minutes to cover a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 12L, and the takeoff distance was 1,556 meters, which accounted for 43% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 153 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 42 degrees Celsius and winds of 8 knots at 80 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed out of Dubai, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile south east of the airport. The climb took 31 minutes to reach an altitude of 39,242 feet above sea level, an increase of 38,225 feet from the initial altitude of 1,018 feet. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 200 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase began 17 miles south east of Sufalat Sama'il in Oman and lasted for 584 minutes, covering a significant distance of 4,637 nautical miles.
As the flight continued, the enroute descent phase started 10 miles north of Dalwallinu Airport in Australia. The descent took 29 minutes to reduce the altitude from 38,151 feet to 1,320 feet above sea level, a decrease of 36,830 feet. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 125 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 03 at Perth International Airport (YPPH) was made from the south, with a heading of 14.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,249 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 03 at YPPH was successful, with a touchdown distance of 319 meters, which was within the acceptable limits. The touchdown speed was also good at 139 knots, and the touchdown rate was heavy at -628 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 19.4 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and winds of 9 knots at 30 degrees.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 2 minutes to cover a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 4,971 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 653 minutes. The aircraft used a significant amount of fuel, with a total consumption of 124,147 kilograms.
The Emirates aircraft, A6-EVA, successfully landed at YPPH Perth International Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing performance. The aircraft approached the runway from the south, heading 14.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,249 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with a good threshold speed of 139 knots, which is within the acceptable range.
However, the aircraft touched down with a heavy rate of -628 feet per minute (fpm), which is higher than the desired rate. This could be attributed to the aircraft's descent rate being too steep, resulting in a harder touchdown. The touchdown distance of 319 meters was within the acceptable range, but the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 19.4 meters from the centerline. This misalignment could have been caused by a combination of factors, including wind, pilot error, or a navigation issue.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 9 knots at 30°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. These conditions were favorable for landing, but the aircraft's performance was still affected by the misalignment and heavy touchdown rate.
The total landing distance of 962 meters was 28% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 19.0 meters from the centerline, which could have been caused by the same factors that contributed to the initial touchdown misalignment.
Overall, while the Emirates aircraft A6-EVA successfully landed at YPPH Perth International Airport, there were some notable deviations from the ideal landing performance. The heavy touchdown rate and misaligned touchdown and rollout positions highlight the need for further training and improvement in the pilot's landing skills.
