Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,930 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,930 m of the 3,377 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 560 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A350-1000 taxied from the parking area to runway 27L at London Heathrow Airport (EGLL) in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 27L, the aircraft accelerated over a takeoff distance of 2,170 m, representing 60 % of the runway, and achieved liftoff at 164 kt; ambient temperature was 22 °C with wind 11 kt from 299°, a 6 kt cross-wind component and a 10 kt head-wind component.
Climb commenced overhead Horton, advancing from 1,105 ft asl to 33,793 ft asl-a gain of 32,688 ft-over 23 minutes while traversing 156 nm.
Cruise began 2 mi south-east of Brinscall, Lancashire, and persisted for 584 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 4,548 nm.
Descent was initiated 11 mi west of 43CA Dick Taylor Airstrip, Kelso, CA, descending from 35,104 ft asl to 1,373 ft asl, a loss of 33,731 ft in 24 minutes and covering 134 nm.
The final approach to runway 25L at Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX) was flown from the east on a heading of 263.0° at 4 nm and 1,234 ft agl.
Landing on runway 25L, which is 3,377 m long, was executed with a threshold speed of 144 kt; touchdown occurred 187 m beyond the touchdown zone at 138 kt and a firm rate of minus 336 fpm, with alignment described as very good. Local weather reported a temperature of 19 °C, wind 5 kt from 249°, a 1 kt cross-wind and a 5 kt head-wind. The total landing distance measured 1,893 m, equivalent to 56 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment was noted as very good following touchdown.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in less than 1 minute, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 4,848 nm, required 640 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 75,179 kg of fuel.
The aircraft touched down before the runway threshold at a speed of 2 kt, with a vertical rate of -49 fpm that met the perfect criterion. The touchdown point was laterally displaced by 200.5 m from the centreline, indicating a significant misalignment. Ambient conditions were 15 °C temperature, a 1 kt wind from 270°, with a 1 kt crosswind component and no headwind.
To improve future performance, aim to align the aircraft within a few metres of the runway centreline and ensure the touchdown occurs beyond the threshold, targeting the standard aim point approximately 300 m (1,000 ft) down the runway. Maintaining lateral alignment and proper touchdown location will raise the overall landing score.
