Improve the takeoff
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,914 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 314 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, Vueling EC-MGZ, then departed from runway 09 at LEGR F.G.L. Airport, also known as Granada-Jaén Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,575 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 149 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at a direction of 90 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 2 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south east of Chauchina in Andalusia, Spain. The climb took 18 minutes and covered a distance of 110 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 2,870 feet above sea level to 33,333 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,464 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 7 miles south east of Elche de la Sierra in Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. This phase lasted for 16 minutes and covered a distance of 120 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile west of Nules in Comunitat Valenciana, Spain. The descent took 28 minutes and covered a distance of 111 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 33,281 feet above sea level to 2,907 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,375 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 4 miles south east of Coma-ruga in Catalunya, Spain. This phase lasted for 5 minutes and covered a distance of 16 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 3 miles south west of Castelldefels in Catalunya, Spain. The descent took 2 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 2,572 feet above sea level to 1,300 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,272 feet.
The final approach to runway 06L at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport was made from the south west, heading 65.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,281 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 06L, which had a length of 2,914 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 139 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 317 meters, and the touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was also good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -224 feet per minute.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 18 knots at a direction of 49 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 17 knots. The total landing distance was 1,159 meters, which accounted for 40% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 12 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 369 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 90 minutes. The aircraft used 3,039 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
Aircraft Vueling EC-MGZ successfully landed at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, showcasing a high level of proficiency in its approach and landing procedures. The aircraft began its final approach to runway 06L from the southwest, heading 65.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,281 feet above ground level.
The pilot's performance during the approach was impressive, with a score of 99.7%. This indicates that the pilot adhered to standard operating procedures and maintained a high level of control throughout the approach. The aircraft's final approach speed was well-managed, with a threshold speed of 139 knots, which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft demonstrated good control, with a touchdown distance of 317 meters and a touchdown speed of 133 knots. However, the touchdown rate was slightly below average at -224 feet per minute, which may indicate a slight loss of control during the final stages of the approach. Nevertheless, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and controlled approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 12°C and a moderate headwind of 17 knots. The crosswind component was minimal at 5 knots, which further contributed to the smoothness of the landing. The total landing distance of 1,159 meters was within the acceptable range, accounting for approximately 40% of the runway length.
The rollout alignment after touchdown was also perfect, indicating that the pilot maintained control and stability throughout the landing process. Overall, the landing of Vueling EC-MGZ at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport was a textbook example of a well-executed approach and landing, with the pilot demonstrating a high level of skill and proficiency.
