Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,033 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 628 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A319 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDDV Hannover Airport, a process that took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 09L, with a takeoff distance of 1,472 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 156 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of -0°C, a wind speed of 16 knots at 99°, resulting in a 2-knot crosswind and a 15-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead EDDV Hannover Airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,180 feet above sea level to 9,267 feet above sea level, an increase of 8,087 feet, in just 5 minutes and covering a distance of 15 nautical miles. The climb was followed by a descent, which began 1 mile south of Steimbke, Lower Saxony, Germany. The descent took the aircraft from 9,267 feet above sea level to 2,790 feet above sea level, a decrease of 6,477 feet, in 7 minutes and covering a distance of 31 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise, which started 1 mile south-east of Harpstedt, Lower Saxony, Germany, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The cruise was followed by another descent, which began 1 mile north-east of Ganderkesee, Lower Saxony, Germany. The descent took the aircraft from 2,464 feet above sea level to 1,321 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,144 feet, in just 2 minutes and covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 09 at EDDW Bremen Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 89.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,298 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 09, which had a length of 2,033 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 140 knots. The touchdown point was 210 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -248 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.0 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -2°C, a wind speed of 18 knots at 100°, resulting in a 4-knot crosswind and an 18-knot headwind. The total landing distance was 1,281 meters, which accounted for 63% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 17.7 meters from the centreline. The total flight distance was 68 nautical miles, and the flight took 30 minutes to complete, using 1,155 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at EDDW Bremen Airport, achieving a score of 87.3%. The final approach to runway 09 was initiated from the west, with a heading of 89.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,298 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft successfully touched down on the runway, but with a few notable deviations from the ideal landing performance.
The threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 140 kt. This may indicate a slight overcorrection by the pilot during the final approach. The touchdown point was 210 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which suggests that the pilot may have been slightly too aggressive with the descent. The touchdown speed of 133 kt was also a little faster than the ideal speed, which could have contributed to the slightly longer landing distance.
The touchdown rate of -248 fpm was considered fair, indicating that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of touchdown relatively smoothly. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.0 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the final approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -2°C and a wind speed of 18 kt from a direction of 100°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 kt and a headwind of 18 kt, which may have affected the pilot's ability to maintain a precise alignment during the final approach.
The total landing distance of 1,281 meters was 63% of the available runway length, which is a relatively acceptable distance. However, the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 17.7 meters from the centerline, which may indicate a slight deviation in the pilot's control during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, but with some room for improvement in terms of speed control and alignment during the final approach and rollout phases.
