MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,397 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,397 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 214 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 29 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 05R at EDDL Düsseldorf Airport, with a takeoff distance of 682 meters, which accounted for 28% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 150 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 18°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northeast of EDDL Düsseldorf Airport, and climbed from an altitude of 1,044 feet above sea level to 6,952 feet above sea level, an increase of 5,908 feet, in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting 1 mile east of Muelheim, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb phase, this time starting 2 miles west of Bottrop, and climbed from 7,001 feet above sea level to 8,808 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,807 feet, in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, this time starting overhead Schermbeck, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 25 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent phase, starting overhead Luedinghausen, and descended from 9,000 feet above sea level to 2,051 feet above sea level, a decrease of 6,949 feet, in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 23 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 24 at EDLW Dortmund Airport was made from the northeast, with a heading of 241.0°, at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,639 feet above ground level. However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around at an altitude of 608 feet above ground level. The aircraft then landed on runway 24 at EDLW Dortmund Airport, with a runway length of 1,397 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 121 knots.
The touchdown point was 207 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 120 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was hard at -473 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 270°, with a crosswind component of 1 knot and a headwind component of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,027 meters, which accounted for 74% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took just 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 131 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 41 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 2,729 kilograms.
The A400M aircraft successfully landed at EDLW Dortmund Airport, achieving a high score of 94.5%. The final approach was conducted from the north-east, heading 241.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,639 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was well-executed, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 121 knots, which is within the acceptable range.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 207 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 120 knots, which is also within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown rate was slightly hard, at -473 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a slightly abrupt touchdown. Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and headwind, making the landing even smoother. The total landing distance was 1,027 meters, which is 74% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled throughout the approach and landing.
The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway after touchdown and during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was well-executed, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 94.5%.
