MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,686 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,686 m of the 3,039 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 262 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by a Boeing 787-10 aircraft. The aircraft began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. Departure roll took place on runway 36R at the Orlando International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,684 meters, which accounted for 46% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 176 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 18°C temperature and a wind speed of 1 knot at 269 degrees. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile east of the Lake Conway South Seaplane Base, and climbed from 1,149 feet above sea level to 11,011 feet, an increase of 9,862 feet in just 4 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, starting overhead Gotha, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 13 nautical miles. The aircraft continued its climb, starting overhead Clermont, and climbed from 11,361 feet to 20,988 feet, an increase of 9,627 feet in 11 minutes, covering a distance of 75 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 21 miles south of the Lewis Cedar Key airport, and lasted for 25 minutes, covering 156 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb, starting 43 miles south of the Lower Grand Lagoon, and climbed from 21,570 feet to 22,543 feet, an increase of 973 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 43 miles east of the Pensacola Moving Carrier, and lasted for 46 minutes, covering 271 nautical miles. As the aircraft continued its journey, it began its descent, starting 4 miles southwest of Franklin, and descended from 21,986 feet to 16,330 feet, a decrease of 5,656 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 42 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 1 mile north of the Kaplan Airport, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 13 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another descent, starting 9 miles southwest of the Ken Guidry #2 Airport, and descended from 16,325 feet to 11,192 feet, a decrease of 5,133 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 37 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 3 miles north of the Cameron Airstrip, and lasted for 11 minutes, covering 64 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another descent, starting 5 miles south of Devers, and descended from 11,161 feet to 1,593 feet, a decrease of 9,568 feet in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 32 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27 at the George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 271.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,474 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, with a touchdown distance of 265 meters, which was good. However, the touchdown speed of 247 knots was excessively fast, and the touchdown rate was hard at -423 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 13.7 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was significantly misaligned by 31.0 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 2,639 meters, which accounted for 87% of the runway. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area,
The Boeing 787-10 aircraft attempted a landing on runway 27 at KIAH George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport, but the landing was not entirely successful. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the east, heading 271.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,474 feet above ground level. The landing was scored at 57.1%, indicating a moderate level of performance.
The aircraft's final approach to the runway was characterized by a threshold height that was significantly above the target, which may have affected the overall performance of the landing. Additionally, the threshold speed was excessively high at 312 knots, which could have put additional stress on the aircraft during the landing process. However, the touchdown distance was good at 265 meters, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain control and stability during the landing.
Despite the good touchdown distance, the touchdown speed was excessively fast at 247 knots, which may have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -423 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was also misaligned by 13.7 meters from the centreline, which could have affected the aircraft's ability to maintain control and stability during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 22°C and winds of 9 knots at 149°. The crosswind was 8 knots, and the tailwind was 5 knots, which may have contributed to the misaligned runway touchdown position.
The total landing distance was 2,639 meters, which is 87% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was significantly misaligned by 31.0 meters from the centreline, which may have affected the aircraft's ability to maintain control and stability during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was not entirely successful, with several areas for improvement identified. The excessively high threshold speed, hard touchdown rate, and misaligned runway touchdown position and rollout alignment all contributed to the moderate score of 57.1%.
