Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,723 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,723 m of the 2,790 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 473 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing Munich Airport's runway 26L, the Airbus A320 initiated its takeoff roll, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 157 kt in 2,068 meters, which was 52% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 12 °C and a light headwind of 1 kt from the northwest. As the aircraft lifted off, it began its initial climb, gradually increasing its altitude from 2,502 feet above sea level to 22,001 feet, a vertical gain of 19,500 feet, in just 8 minutes while covering 41 nautical miles.
The enroute climb phase was followed by a level cruise, which started 2 miles south of Eichstaett, lasting 10 minutes and covering 65 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, initiated 1 mile southwest of Sonderhofen, and descended from 22,006 feet to 1,798 feet, a decrease of 20,208 feet, in 16 minutes while covering 67 nautical miles. The final approach to Frankfurt Airport's runway 25R was conducted from the east, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 250.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,447 feet above ground level.
The Airbus A320 landed on runway 25R, which was 2,795 meters long, with a threshold height above the target and a threshold speed of 139 kt, indicating a good approach. However, the touchdown point was 57 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed of 134 kt was slightly fast, resulting in a hard touchdown rate of -506 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 3.8 meters from the centerline. The total landing distance was 1,642 meters, which was 59% of the available runway length. Following a smooth rollout alignment, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 7 minutes, covering 3 nautical miles. The total flight distance was 182 nautical miles, and the aircraft consumed 1,966 kilograms of fuel during the 45-minute flight.
The final approach to runway 25R at EDDF Frankfurt Airport from the east, heading 250.0° at 4 nm and 1,447 ft agl, was executed with a satisfactory approach quality. The aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 134 kt, which was a little fast, and a touchdown rate of -506 fpm, indicating a very hard touchdown. The threshold height at 60 ft agl was above the target, suggesting a slightly higher than ideal approach path.
The touchdown point was 57 m beyond the touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.8 m from the centreline. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and correct for any deviations during the critical phases of the landing. The threshold speed of 139 kt was good, indicating a well-executed approach and a high degree of control.
The total landing distance of 1,642 m, which accounted for 59% of the runway length, was within acceptable limits. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 9 °C and a wind of 4 kt at 20°, contributed to a relatively straightforward landing. The crosswind and tailwind components of 3 kt each did not significantly impact the landing, allowing the pilot to maintain a stable approach and touchdown. Overall, the landing was scored 91.8%, reflecting a good performance with some minor areas for improvement.
