Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,533 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,533 m of the 2,693 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 482 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an RJ85, then departed from runway 09 at EDDW Bremen Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,016 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 137 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 11 knots at a direction of 30 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 9 knots and a headwind of 6 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile south of Bremen, Germany, and ascended from an altitude of 1,064 feet above sea level to 21,612 feet above sea level, an increase of 20,548 feet, in 11 minutes and covering a distance of 45 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 2 miles north of Garbsen, Lower Saxony, Germany, and lasted for 24 minutes, covering a distance of 157 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 2 miles west of Priesendorf, Bavaria, Germany, and descended from 21,586 feet above sea level to 4,709 feet above sea level, a decrease of 16,876 feet, in 8 minutes and covering a distance of 18 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started again 1 mile west of Weisendorf, Bavaria, Germany, and lasted for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent overhead Puschendorf, Bavaria, Germany, and descended from 4,203 feet above sea level to 2,822 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,381 feet, in 2 minutes and covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 10 at EDDN Nuremberg Airport was made from the west, heading 100.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,772 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 10, which had a length of 2,693 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 110 knots.
The touchdown point was 248 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 102 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was smooth at -128 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots at a direction of 60 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,634 meters, which was 61% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 239 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 64 minutes. The aircraft used 2,479 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft in question, an RJ85, successfully landed at EDDN Nuremberg Airport with a score of 95.1%. The final approach was conducted from the west, heading 100.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,772 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft landed on runway 10, which has a length of 2,693 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 110 knots. Despite this, the touchdown point was 248 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. The touchdown speed of 102 knots was considered good, and the touchdown rate of -128 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating a controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or during the landing roll. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 24°C, a wind speed of 3 knots at 60°, and a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,634 meters, which is 61% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating a good approach and landing performance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was well under control during the landing roll and that the pilot was able to maintain a stable and aligned path.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a high score of 95.1%. However, there were some minor deviations from the intended landing spot and a slightly below-target threshold speed.
